Ta’Niya Latson Brings the Hype as She Prepares for Senior Season with South Carolina
South Carolina’s newest star, Ta’Niya Latson, is already making waves before suiting up for the Gamecocks. The 5-foot-8 guard, who is entering her senior year after transferring from Florida State, was recently featured in a lively video shared by Unrivaled Basketball on Instagram — and she brought both the game and the energy.
Latson, mic’d up during the event, was seen hitting shots, having fun, and sharing playful moments with UConn’s Azzi Fudd.
“I’m mic’d up, do you have anything to say to the people?” Latson asked Fudd during the video. She then hyped up the vibe: “This is what it’s all about. Hey she got that cannon. Liv, just relax a little bit, just a little, let’s go.”
Unrivaled Basketball captioned the post with:
“Ta’Niya is gonna be MUST SEE TV 📺.”

Even Flau’jae Johnson’s mother, Kia Brooks, dropped by in the comments to share her admiration, writing:
“Beautiful young lady ❤️😍.”
Latson officially announced her transfer to South Carolina in an Instagram post on April 8, after three standout seasons with the Florida State Seminoles. She burst onto the college basketball scene on Nov. 7, 2022, debuting with a 28-point, nine-rebound performance in a 113–50 win over Bethune-Cookman.
Across 93 games at FSU, Latson averaged 22.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.8 steals, and shot 44.8% from the field, including 32.6% from deep. She quickly built a decorated résumé, winning:
- 2023 ACC Rookie of the Year
- WBCA Freshman of the Year
- USBWA National Freshman of the Year
- First-team All-ACC (three straight seasons)
Last season, she led the entire NCAA in scoring with 731 total points.
Her college career at FSU ended on a tough note in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, when Florida State was eliminated in the second round by Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers, 101–71. Latson still poured in 30 points in the loss, but LSU’s trio of Sa’Myah Smith, Aneesha Morrow, and Mikaylah Williams combined for 74 points to power the Tigers past the Seminoles. Flau’jae Johnson added 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in the win.
Now headed to Columbia, Latson will join a reloaded South Carolina squad featuring top 2025 recruits, including five-star small forward Agot Makeer (Crestwood Prep) and four-star Ayla McDowell (Cy Springs).
With her talent and energy, it’s clear: Ta’Niya Latson is ready to shine on the biggest stage.
