“‘We Play Real Football’: LSU Star’s Bold Trash Talk Backfires in Netflix’s SEC Docuseries!”

Netflix’s New SEC Docuseries Spotlights LSU, South Carolina—and One Linebacker’s Regret

Netflix dropped its new series Any Given Saturday on Tuesday, pulling back the curtain on the intense week-to-week grind of SEC football. Ten programs opted into the behind-the-scenes look, and the premiere episode focuses heavily on the LSU Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks as they prepared for their electric Week 3 showdown—one of the most memorable games of the season.

But before LSU tangled with the Gamecocks, they opened the season in Las Vegas with a marquee non-conference battle against USC. The series takes fans inside LSU’s preparation, including a candid—and now infamous—moment with linebacker brothers Whit and West Weeks during a hunting trip.

During the outing, Whit fired off some bold words that he may have come to regret.

“Playing USC this week, the first game I’m making it kind of personal for me… I’m not going to let these West Coast dudes come in here and push us around. We’re from the South, we play real football.”
Whit Weeks

Unfortunately for Weeks, USC did exactly what he said they wouldn’t. The Trojans racked up 447 yards of offense and walked away with a 27-20 win over LSU. When the game was on the line in the fourth quarter, USC outscored LSU 14-3—including a 75-yard game-winning drive capped off by a 13-yard touchdown run from Woody Marks.

It’s one thing to talk trash. It’s another to lose right after doing it—especially when you question the legitimacy of another team’s toughness.

To his credit, Whit Weeks didn’t completely disappear. He posted a solid individual performance with six tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Still, the LSU defense couldn’t deliver in crunch time.

Even though his pregame words didn’t age well, Weeks shone as one of the standout personalities in the first episode. His on-camera presence—and the dynamic with his brothers—left viewers wanting more. Honestly, Netflix might have something big if they spin off a series just on the Weeks trio.
