Whit Weeks: LSU Star talks trash in Netflix’s Any Given Saturday, then gets humbled by USC

Netflix’s “Any Given Saturday” Puts LSU, South Carolina in the Spotlight — and Exposes One Linebacker’s Bold Trash Talk Gone Wrong

Netflix dropped its latest sports docuseries on Tuesday, Any Given Saturday, offering an all-access look into the grind of SEC football. Ten programs allowed cameras behind the scenes, and Episode 1 wastes no time, diving straight into LSU’s early season journey — including their much-hyped Week 3 showdown with South Carolina, one of the most thrilling games of the year.

Before facing the Gamecocks, though, LSU opened its season with a marquee non-conference matchup against USC — and Any Given Saturday gives fans an intimate view of what led up to that game.

The episode follows LSU linebackers Whit and West Weeks, brothers who are standout players for the Tigers. While out hunting, Whit didn’t hold back on his thoughts about LSU’s opening opponent.

“Playing USC this week, the first game I’m making it kind of personal for me,” said Whit Weeks. “That way I’m like, I’m not going to let these West Coast dudes come in here and push us around. We’re from the South — we play real football.”

That confidence didn’t age well.

When LSU and USC finally met on the field in Las Vegas, it was the Trojans who brought the physicality — and the win. USC racked up 447 total yards and edged LSU 27–20. Most notably, when it mattered most in the fourth quarter, USC outscored the Tigers 14–3 and sealed the game with a 75-yard drive, capped by a 13-yard touchdown run from Woody Marks.

Calling out an opponent’s toughness before getting beat is a tough look, even if Weeks backed up his talk individually. He posted 6 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, but the LSU defense couldn’t get key stops down the stretch.

Despite the sting of the loss, Whit Weeks emerges as one of the breakout stars of the series. His charisma and chemistry with his brothers shine throughout the episode, leading many to believe Netflix should consider a spin-off focused solely on the Weeks family. Their on-camera energy is simply electric.
