As Arsenal draws closer to making a new acquisition, Spurs might be cursing their actions.

In a deal that could make Tottenham Hotspur regret it, Arsenal is about to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Just weeks after Tottenham Hotspur abandoned a plan to sign David Raya, Arsenal draws closer to making a new acquisition, Spurs might be cursing their actions.Raya appears to be on the verge of a move to Arsenal.

Right now, Moises Caicedo and Harry Kane are the hot topics, but Arsenal is also planning another addition.

Raya, the Brentford goalkeeper, finished the majority of his medical with Arsenal this morning, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Due to the addition of goalkeeping competition, the Spaniard’s signing by Arsenal should be official very soon.

This week, Matt Turner joined Nottingham Forest, which made room for Raya to replace Aaron Ramsdale as competition.

Tottenham Hotspur might think they missed a trick given that Arsenal is ostensibly about to make a transfer announcement.

Following Tottenham’s withdrawal, David Raya will be loaned to Arsenal.

At one point this summer, Raya appeared to be headed for North London, but to Tottenham rather than Arsenal.

Raya and Tottenham had personal terms arranged prior to a move, according to a June Times report.

Tottenham simply weren’t willing to spend that much money to acquire Raya, and Brentford wouldn’t budge on their £40 million demands.

Guglielmo Vicario, an Italian goalie, was available at Empoli, but Tottenham moved away and paid £17,2 million to acquire him.

Spurs were happy to bring the Italian to North London as it was a lot less expensive alternative to the Raya proposal.

But it seems as though Tottenham may have been able to sign Raya in a clever deal.

According to The Athletic, Raya will be joining Arsenal on loan for £3 million with a £27 million buyout option.

Tottenham might have wished they had thought of that deal earlier in the transfer window because it was a very cunning one from Arsenal.

Vicario was outstanding in Serie A last year and may develop into a top-notch goalkeeper for Tottenham in the future.

In addition, Raya has experience in the Premier League and would have qualified as a homegrown player for Tottenham.

The Spaniard seems like the perfect fit for Ange Postecoglou, especially when you consider Raya’s superb distribution.

It is difficult to accept that he will go to Arsenal as a backup, at least initially, when a loan with an option to buy at those prices would have been ideal for Tottenham.

Although Vicario isn’t at fault in this situation and Tottenham supporters will undoubtedly still support the Italian, it’s difficult to help but feel that Spurs have lost out on a lot in this situation.
