Ruben Dias has delivered a clear message to Liverpool regarding this season’s Premier League title race.
The Manchester City defender, aiming to secure a fifth consecutive title for his club, has seen City slip to consecutive defeats against Bournemouth and Brighton, leaving them five points behind league leaders Liverpool. With only 11 out of 38 matchdays completed, though, the Portugal international reminds fans that the title race is far from over and that plenty can change as the season progresses.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Dias emphasized, “Just as we’re not out [of the title race]… no-one’s out. It’s still early days in the season, and obviously, there’s still a lot to happen. We all know how the Premier League is; that’s why we love it so much. We also know that this is going to be a very wild season in terms of time to rest and just dealing with it and moving on forward, so it’s a long run.” He added, “We’re what, maybe one-third of the way, getting to the halfway [point of the season]? So yeah, there’s still a lot to play.”
Liverpool, meanwhile, has the chance to widen the gap over City after the international break. If they beat Southampton and then secure a victory against Pep Guardiola’s side, they could stretch their lead to eight points—or possibly more if City also stumbles against Tottenham on November 23.
This scenario would put Liverpool in a powerful position, giving Arne Slot’s team the buffer to drop points while still staying ahead in the race. An eight-point lead would not only offer some breathing room but could also serve as a significant psychological advantage over City and boost Liverpool’s confidence that they can go the distance this season.
Even a draw in the much-anticipated top-two clash later this month would keep Liverpool at the top and leave them in control of their destiny. However, this Liverpool squad knows all too well about City’s remarkable tendency to shift into high gear during the second half of the season, making the title race anything but predictable.
For Liverpool fans, it’s a matter of taking it “one step at a time” and seeing where this journey leads.
