Ad Maiora, an artisan Italian sandwich shop based in Ancoats, has scored a second call-up to cater for Manchester City’s star-studded squad and their manager, Pep Guardiola. The independent business, run by Daniela Steri and Enrico Pinn, delighted the players with their signature schiacciata sandwiches, packed with authentic Italian flavors.
The couple first catered for the Blues after their 3-1 win against Manchester United in May, but their latest invitation was even more special. This time, they not only served Phil Foden, Nathan Aké, and Erling Haaland but also got to meet Pep Guardiola himself.
Enrico shared his excitement:
“Meeting Pep was unforgettable. He graciously thanked us, saying our sandwiches provided a much-needed boost during a tough run of matches. And seeing Erling Haaland devour one of our sandwiches right in front of us was an incredible and thrilling moment!”
The couple also got to interact with Phil Foden, who enjoyed a porchetta sandwich, and former captain Ilkay Gundogan, who took extra sandwiches home, confident his family would love them too.
Ad Maiora’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. The Sardinian duo started their business just a year ago, baking from their flat in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Their mission to “change the Italian sandwich game” quickly gained traction, allowing them to open shops in Ancoats and MediaCity.
Their menu features massive, flavor-packed sandwiches made with premium ingredients imported directly from Italy. Their viral sensation, “The Beast,” is a mammoth creation weighing over 1kg and stuffed with 10+ Italian ingredients, priced at £20.
Enrico reflected on their rapid rise:
