Manchester City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in yesterday’s pivotal Premier League clash at Anfield, as Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah found the net for the Reds.
City’s poor form continued with defensive errors throughout the match, and the visitors were fortunate to lose by only two goals. Creating chances also proved challenging, and many fans were left stunned by the absence of Kevin De Bruyne in the starting lineup. The Belgian star only played for 15 minutes during the match.
There were a few bright spots for City, however. Pep Guardiola praised Nathan Ake for his exceptional performance, with the Dutch defender earning plenty of praise from City fans post-match. Jeremy Doku, who made an impact after coming on, completed more dribbles than any other player on the pitch.

Jeremy Doku Sends Defiant Message to Fans
Doku took to Instagram following the loss, sharing a message with supporters: “Back on the pitch and fighting with the team. We won’t stop working to make things better.”
In the 2-0 loss, Guardiola started Matheus Nunes on the left and Rico Lewis on the right, but neither managed to get the better of Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andy Robertson. Both were substituted just before the hour mark, with Doku – returning from injury – and Savinho replacing them.

Although Doku caused Alexander-Arnold some problems, he couldn’t help City stage a comeback. Still, his effort stood out more than that of many teammates on the night.
City Need Doku to Step Up

While Doku‘s comeback was a positive sign, Manchester City need him to contribute more consistently moving forward. So far this season, City’s attacking players have largely underperformed – with the exception of Erling Haaland, who has carried the team with his goal-scoring.
Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, and Savinho have yet to score in the league this season, highlighting the need for someone like Doku to step up and provide more regular contributions. Now in his second season at Manchester City, Doku is well-acquainted with the rigors of English football and is expected to find his form in front of goal.
Jeremy Doku’s Statistics for Manchester City (2023-present):
- Appearances – 57
- Goals – 8
- Assists – 13
- Trophies won – 3
With Savinho still adjusting to the pace of the Premier League, Doku‘s ability to find the back of the net will be crucial for City’s title hopes.
