Georgia Football Eyes Transfer Portal for Reinforcements
While Georgia football still has important games left this season, the buzz around the transfer portal is heating up. The portal officially opens on Dec. 9, and though no players can formally enter yet, several have already announced their intentions.
One of those players is Julian Humphrey, a cornerback from Georgia, who has declared he will enter the portal this offseason. Like every team, Georgia is expected to lose players to the portal but will also be active in acquiring talent. A key area they are likely to focus on is wide receiver, a position that has underperformed this year, with Georgia’s receivers leading the nation in dropped passes.
Kirby Smart and his staff are expected to target the portal to strengthen this critical unit. Fortunately, some standout receivers are already available, providing exciting options for Georgia to consider.
Top Wide Receiver Targets in the Transfer Portal
Kevin Concepcion – NC State
Concepcion is a proven performer with two strong seasons at NC State. This year, he logged 53 receptions for 460 yards and six touchdowns. However, his freshman season was even more impressive, with 71 catches for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns.
While his production dipped slightly in his sophomore year, his overall performance makes him a top target for Georgia. His ability to contribute immediately could make a significant impact on Georgia’s passing game.
Eric Rivers – FIU
Eric Rivers has been a revelation for FIU, particularly in his second season. After a solid freshman campaign with 32 receptions, Rivers exploded this year, recording 62 catches for 1,172 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Though his success came at the Group of Five level, his talent suggests he can seamlessly transition to the Power Four level. Rivers’ knack for big plays and reliability would be a huge boost to Georgia’s receiving corps, helping reduce their drop issues.
Micah Hudson – Texas Tech
Despite a quiet freshman season at Texas Tech—with just eight catches for 123 yards—Hudson remains a highly intriguing option. As a five-star recruit in the 2024 class, Hudson was ranked the No. 25 overall player and the No. 5 wide receiver by 247Sports.
Hudson’s limited stats are not reflective of his talent, and his potential is immense. For Georgia, he represents a long-term investment, with the possibility of significant development under Smart’s coaching staff.
Looking Ahead
As the transfer portal prepares to open, Georgia football is poised to be an active player in upgrading its roster. With a focus on wide receiver, the Bulldogs have an opportunity to address one of their biggest weaknesses. Adding proven talents like Concepcion, Rivers, or a high-upside option like Hudson could be the key to elevating the offense for next season.
