Live Update: Shane Beamer’s Gamecocks Achieve Record Academic Milestone

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Under the leadership of Head Coach Shane Beamer, the South Carolina Gamecocks football team has achieved a historic milestone, recording the highest GPA in the program’s history. This achievement highlights Coach Beamer’s commitment to fostering excellence both on and off the field.

Taking to Twitter to share the accomplishment, Beamer proudly stated:

“Proud of what our @GamecockFB TEAM did ON the field this season … Just got word that OFF the field our TEAM had the highest GPA in the HISTORY of the football program!!!! Thanks to @Justin_Light and everyone in our academic support office—Competition is a core value of our program.”

Since taking over as the 36th head coach on December 6, 2020, Beamer has made it clear that academic success is just as important as athletic performance. This focus on education has paid off, as the team has achieved four of the eight highest GPAs in program history during his tenure.

A Culture of Success

Coach Beamer’s holistic approach to player development has strengthened the program’s culture, which he claims is the strongest it’s ever been. This culture shift is reflected not only in academic achievements but also in the program’s growing fan support. Beamer recently noted that season ticket sales have surged by an impressive 106%.

As the Gamecocks continue to excel both on the field and in the classroom, Beamer remains optimistic about the future:

“The best days of South Carolina football are still in front of us.”
