South Carolina Strikes Again: Lands Another Defensive Tackle from Transfer Portal

South Carolina Gamecocks Reload Defense with Sixth Transfer Addition

Despite losing seven defensive starters, the South Carolina Gamecocks continue to bolster their roster through the transfer portal. On Saturday morning, the Gamecocks announced the signing of Davonte Miles, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive tackle from Bowling Green State University.

Miles, entering his junior season, made his mark at Bowling Green last year, playing in 11 games and recording 12 tackles and one tackle for loss. A former three-star prospect from Missouri, Miles showcased his versatility in high school by playing both defensive tackle and left tackle before committing to Bowling Green.

This signing makes Miles the second defensive tackle transfer for the Gamecocks this cycle, joining Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy from Texas A&M. Both players are expected to compete for immediate starting roles following the departures of South Carolina’s top three defensive tackles — TJ Sanders, Tonka Hemingway, and Alex Huntley — from the 2024 squad.

The Gamecocks have been aggressive in rebuilding their roster ahead of the 2025 season. Here’s a full list of South Carolina’s transfer additions:

  • QB — Air Noland (Ohio State)
  • RB — Rahsul Faison (Utah State)
  • OL — Nick Sharpe (Wake Forest)
  • OL — Rodney Newsom Jr. (Western Kentucky)
  • OL — Boaz Stanley (Troy)
  • TE — Jordan Dingle (Kentucky)
  • Edge — Jaylen Brown (Missouri)
  • DT — Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy (Texas A&M)
  • DT — Davonte Miles (Bowling Green)
  • LB — Shawn Murphy (Florida State)
  • LB — Justin Okoronkwo (Alabama)
  • CB — Myles Norwood (Ball State)

With a mix of incoming talent, the Gamecocks are determined to stay competitive despite significant turnover. Keep following for updates as South Carolina continues to reload for the upcoming season.
