Live from the Lone Star Rivalry: Amari Niblack Joins Texas A&M, Leaving the Longhorns Behind
The Texas Longhorns have officially lost a key talent to the NCAA Transfer Portal, with tight end Amari Niblack finding a new home—and it’s with their biggest rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies.

A New Chapter for Niblack
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Niblack is expected to sign with Texas A&M after visiting College Station over the weekend. This decision comes after just one season in Austin, where he served as a backup following his transfer from the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Niblack arrived at Texas with high hopes but struggled to make a significant impact. He recorded only five catches for 33 yards throughout the 2024 season. Notably, Niblack had five touchdowns during his time at Alabama, including one against Texas in 2023, sparking optimism about his potential. However, he ultimately played behind Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis on the depth chart.
In the 17-7 victory over Texas A&M on November 30, Niblack managed just one catch for two yards. His most notable performance as a Longhorn came in the win over Vanderbilt, where he had two catches for 22 yards.
High Praise but Limited Opportunity
Back in August, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed enthusiasm about Niblack’s abilities, adding to the buzz surrounding his potential contributions to the Longhorns’ offense.
“Amari, the last two or three days, has probably had his best days since he’s been with us,” Sarkisian said at the time. “He’s really healthy, and you can see the impact he can have in the passing game as well as in the run game.”
Despite the praise, Niblack’s opportunities were limited, prompting his decision to enter the transfer portal.
A Busy Offseason for Texas Departures
Niblack is one of 10 players to leave the Longhorns through the transfer portal this offseason. Others include:
- Johntay Cook II (WR)
- Sydir Mitchell (DL, LSU)
- Aaron Bryant (DL, Vanderbilt)
- Tia Savea (DL, Arizona)
- Jaray Bledsoe (DL, Mississippi State)
- Tausili Akana (LB, BYU)
- Derion Gullette (LB, Mississippi State)
- Jay’Vion Cole (CB, Arizona)
- Justice Finkley (EDGE, Kansas)
Rivalry Intensifies
With Amari Niblack joining the Aggies, the already heated Texas-Texas A&M rivalry gains another layer of intrigue. As fans await the upcoming battles between these two programs, Niblack’s decision will undoubtedly be a storyline to watch. Stay tuned for how this move shakes up the Lone Star football landscape.
