Texas Lands Big-Time 2026 OT Max Wright in Early Recruiting Win
The Texas Longhorns are already making waves in the 2026 recruiting cycle, securing a commitment from towering three-star offensive tackle Max Wright. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound prospect out of Melissa High School (TX) announced his decision on Wednesday, choosing Texas over Michigan, SMU, and several other programs.
Texas Wasting No Time in 2026 Recruiting
While National Signing Day is focused on the 2025 recruiting class, Texas made headlines by looking ahead. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff continue to build for the future, adding another key piece to their offensive line.
“BREAKING: Class of 2026 OT Max Wright has Committed to Texas,” recruiting insider Hayes Fawcett posted. “The 6’7, 290 OT from Melissa, TX chose the Longhorns over SMU & Michigan.”
Wright kept his commitment message short and simple:
“Texas Raised.”
Scouting Report: What Texas is Getting in Max Wright
Wright is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, ranked as the No. 409 overall player in the 2026 class, the No. 33 offensive tackle, and the No. 55 player in Texas. However, with another full high school season ahead, his ranking could rise significantly.
A physically imposing lineman, Wright has already gained experience at left tackle and has the tools to stick on the outside at the next level.

“Big-framed offensive lineman with left tackle experience and the physical tools to stay outside for good,” his scouting report reads. “Succeeds in a phone booth, especially in the run game, where size and strength overwhelm smaller defenders. Shows encouraging combo-blocking range/agility. Casts a wide shadow on the edge in pass protection. Still developing foot quickness to mirror higher-end edge speed.”
While he may not be a day-one starter at Texas, Wright is expected to develop into a valuable asset for the Longhorns’ offensive front.
“Will unlock next tier of run-game block-finishing ability with added power and punch consistency,” the report continues. “Projects as a P4/high-major tackle with high-floor functionality and high-ceiling physical tools.”
Texas Keeps Rolling in Recruiting
Texas is expected to finish with the No. 1-ranked 2025 recruiting class, already boasting 25 commits, including five five-star prospects, 14 four-stars, and six three-stars. While Wright is just the third commit in the 2026 cycle, Texas’ early efforts have the class ranked 27th nationally—a number that will surely climb in the coming months.
With the Longhorns thriving on the recruiting trail, Max Wright’s commitment adds yet another building block for Texas’ future dominance in the trenches.
