Reasons behind the name change at Emirates Stadium for Champions League games at Arsenal.

In tonight’s Champions League match, Arsenal will host PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates Stadium for the first time since 2017.

After spending the last six years absent from the competition, Arsenal returns to the UEFA Champions League this evening. The first of six group games features the Gunners hosting PSV Eindhoven in north London.

Following undefeated starts to the season, both teams enter the match.

The Premier League debut of Mikel Arteta’s team has seen four victories, nine goals scored, and four goals allowed.

With 13 goals and one goal allowed, PSV leads the Eredivisie after winning every game.

The 24-time defending Champions League champions from the Netherlands are participating in the group stage of the competition for the first time since 2018 and are attempting to advance to the knockout round, which they haven’t done since 2016.

Arsenal has six group stage matches remaining after tonight’s contest.

After the October international break, they will play RC Lens in La Liga.

The Gunners are the clear favorites to advance as group winners, and some have even backed the north Londoners to contend for the championship at Wembley Stadium in June.

Some fans may have noticed that the location of tonight’s game is listed as the “Arsenal Stadium” rather than the “Emirates Stadium” in the advertisement.

UEFA’s rules on stadium sponsors are the cause of that.

According to the regulations, every European match will refer to Arsenal’s home field as “Arsenal Stadium.”.

The Etihad Stadium of Manchester City is governed by the same principle.

The City of Manchester Stadium—the name it had before being renamed the Etihad—is used to refer to the holders’ home stadium in accordance with the same UEFA rules.
