Three players who will play against Newcastle on Wednesday night have just been announced by Guardiola.
Newcastle United now knows at least three players who will play at St James’ Park, though they still do not know what kind of Manchester City team they will face on Wednesday night.
Prior to the Carabao Cup match against Newcastle, where he plans to change up his lineup, Guardiola spoke to the media.
Eddie Howe must be expected to act similarly. We anticipated that the Toon manager would make up to nine changes for the matchup with the treble winners from the previous season.
Harvey Barnes will be one of the players who is excluded, though. He suffered an injury during Newcastle’s 8-0 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday, and he is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time.
Guardiola will welcome one of his new additions to the Manchester City squad along with two England internationals, while Newcastle will be without one of their summer signings.
Against Newcastle, Kalvin Phillips will get the start, according to Guardiola.
Three players who will play in the Carabao Cup Third Round match were announced by Guardiola in a press conference prior to the game at St. James’ Park.
He replied, “Yeah, he’ll start, Kalvin Phillips.
“Both Mateo Kovacic and Jack Gralish are much better.
From the beginning of the second half, I’m not sure how many minutes they will receive, but they will.
“.
For the Carabao Cup match, senior Manchester City players are scheduled.
Even though Guardiola has previously said he won’t “waste one percent of energy” on the Carabao Cup, it sounds like some big names will undoubtedly play at St. James’ Park.
Since making remarks last year about Miguel Almiron, Jack Grealish has not participated in North East games, but he is expected to. He had been sidelined with a hamstring injury, but he made an appearance this past weekend in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Mateo Kovacic, a summer acquisition from Chelsea, has missed the team’s previous three games across all competitions, but he appears set to return on Wednesday night.
Kalvin Phillips, who was rumored to be moving to Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, will also get a start.
The 27-year-old had the option of leaving the Etihad and competing for a spot, despite Eddie Howe’s desire to add him to his midfield.
Given the level of competition, that seems like a mistake, but Wednesday will be his chance to show that he merits more playing time.
