It’s safe to say that this is a story that appeared out of nowhere and spread quickly after a verbal offer was rejected. Although it might be difficult to resist Pep Guardiola’s advances, Moyes will be eager to hold onto his attacking midfielder after bringing him to the club just one year ago.
When City comes knocking, that is a difficult offer for any player to turn down, and Paqueta will understandably have had his head turned by the interest at this point.
Given that they have already raised a sizable sum of money through player sales this summer, West Ham is unlikely to be in a hurry to accept a price for the player if they decide not to sell. However, bringing in some recruits from the Etihad could make a deal more alluring.
The East London side might want to include people like Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Kalvin Phillips in the talks.
However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City and West Ham United have discussed the potential transfer of Lucas Paqueta and may offer some players to West Ham as part of their efforts to sign Paqueta.
Lucas Paqueta, a Brazilian who last season assisted the Hammers in winning the Europa Conference League, is available for £60 million from Man City.
The Premier League champions City are willing to pay £60 million for the midfielder, according to two sources who spoke to Sky Sports News. A formal City bid for the player has not yet been made, though.
Paqueta’s contract with West Ham has four more years to run. He was acquired by the champions of the Europa Conference League from Lyon for £51 million in August of last year, but if City made a bid, the player would be open to leaving.
Even if the price is right, West Ham is not interested in selling Paqueta this summer. With the Premier League kicking off this weekend, they believe they would not have enough time to sign a replacement.
The £85 million buyout clause in Paqueta’s contract won’t be activated until the summer of 2019.
The player, however, would find it very difficult to pass up the chance to work with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
West Ham and Manchester United have a tentative contract to sign defender Harry Maguire for somewhere around £30 million.
Personal issues shouldn’t be an issue, but there is still work to be done on the specifics of his departure from United.
Despite the fact that West Ham’s £20 million offer for the England international was turned down last month, they remain cautiously optimistic about finalizing the signing.
Prior to Man Utd’s opening Premier League match against Wolves on Monday Night Football, Maguire trained with the team on Wednesday morning.
James Ward-Prowse’s transfer to West Ham and Southampton has also been broadly agreed upon.
Although Southampton will receive better payment terms and conditions, the deal is worth the £30m that was turned down last month.
It’s believed that Saints want him to play against Norwich this weekend, so discussions are taking place about when the deal can be finalized.
One source told Sky Sports News that Ward-Prowse is eager to move as soon as possible but would like the chance to say goodbye to the Southampton supporters.
West Ham don’t want him risked before such a high-value move.
No issues with personal terms are anticipated.
