Pending deals; Manchester City looking to fill-in players and Saudi Arabia turns to youth.

Gabri Veiga, a talented young midfielder for Celta Vigo, looks set to sign a deal with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli after an earlier attempt to join Napoli, the defending Italian champions, fell through.

The 21-year-old, who was a crucial member of Celta Vigo’s team last season, has a market value of €30 million, per Transfermarkt, thanks to his 11 goals and 4 assists during his first season with the team.

He is the first significant young player to choose to move to Saudi Arabia, a country that has so far targeted prominent but aging players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Neymar.

European football fans and players have reacted angrily to the rumor. Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos called the move “embarrassing” in a comment under Fabrizio Romano’s Instagram post teasing it.

Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Wolves and a member of Portugal’s national team, has agreed to personal terms with Manchester City in advance of a €50 million transfer that may be official as soon as this weekend. The 24-year-old joins the Citizens as they look to improve their midfield options after Kevin De Bruyne’s injury had him sidelined until 2024 and the team had this week opted not to pursue West Ham playmaker Lucas Paqueta.

As a direct replacement for the previously targeted Paqueta, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze has also been linked to the treble winners.

After the FA launched an investigation into the player for spot-fixing, Manchester City withdrew their interest in signing Paqueta. Eze, 25, has distinguished himself as one of the most intriguing players outside the top six since joining the Eagles in 2020 after playing for championship team QPR.

Brennan Johnson, an attacker for Wales and Nottingham Forest, is expected to receive an offer from Tottenham that is in the neighborhood of £40 million. The 22-year-old Wales international had a standout first season in the Premier League last year, scoring eight goals and dishing out three assists while playing for a Forest team that was in the thick of a relegation dogfight.

Johnson would add some much-needed efficiency to the Spurs attack because of his versatility as a winger and striker. Johnson would probably play on the right wing to give Richarlison time to get used to filling Harry Kane’s spot at the position 9, which Kane abandoned when he moved to Bayern Munich for €100 million earlier this month.

Juventus striker Moise Kean is a target for Fulham. The 23-year-old, who has four caps for Italy, would stand in for Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is moving to Saudi Arabia. The player may try to improve his Premier League reputation after having success in France and Italy while playing for PSG and Juventus, respectively. He struggled during his most recent Premier League stint with Everton, where he scored two goals in 32 games in 2019/20.

Fans can expect Fulham to have a good chance at getting their man because he currently takes second place to Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic and a move to bring Romelu Lukaku to Turin is looking more and more likely.

Following his impressive performance at the U21 Euros last month, Sheffield United is gaining ground on Aston Villa and England U21 striker Cameron Archer. Iliman N’diaye, a Senegalese starlet who chose to join his old team Marseille in July, much to the dismay of the Blades’ supporters, left the club with a little bit of a staffing shortage. Despite playing less this season than Ollie Watkins and the newly acquired Moussa Diaby, Archer still possesses a lot of potential and will welcome the chance to see more action.

As super agent Jorge Mendes travels to the Catalan Capital, Joao Cancelo’s transfer from Manchester City to FC Barcelona is just about complete. A €60 million option was included in the deal to make the Portuguese international’s loan with FC Bayern a permanent one, but FC Bayern decided not to exercise it. The player’s relationship with Manchester City strangely ended during the 2022–23 season, following a successful run at the club that earned him a spot at left back on the World Team of the Year in 2021.

The player’s market value is €50 million, but since he wants to move and Manchester City is willing to let him go, a transfer would probably cost less.
