Only one team, in David Silva’s opinion, stands a chance to dethrone Manchester City as Premier League champions this year.
The Sky Blues’ first-ever Premier League championship in 2012 was made possible in large part by Silva, a former City playmaker.
The Spaniard continued to represent the team in more than 400 games and enjoyed a distinguished career that included four Premier League championships, two FA Cups, and five League Cups.
Sadly, due to a knee injury, the 37-year-old was forced to retire this summer, but he believes City will continue to rule English football for some time to come.
Silva told The Mirror that “They [City] have an amazing team with some amazing players.”.
“Pep is in his eighth campaign with City.
He was still adjusting to the Premier League his first year, but they are now virtually unbeatable.”.
However, the former Spain international believes that Arsenal is the only team that has a chance of upsetting the reigning champions.
His response may enrage teams like Liverpool and Manchester United, both of which are hoping to challenge for the championship this year.
The only team that might have a chance to challenge City, in his opinion, is Arsenal.
“The rest?
I doubt they can.
“I watched almost all of City’s matches in the Champions League last season. I couldn’t win it when I was there, but I’m so happy for the club that they were able to do it at last.
It’s due to them. The Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup – the Treble – is something that both the team and the fans deserve. It was a fantastic accomplishment.”.
