On Wednesday, when Arsenal hosts PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, everyone will be watching Mikel Arteta to decide between David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale for the starting goaltender position.
Arteta must field his strongest team—or at the very least rotate his squad—in order to compete for the biggest prizes—the Champions League and the title race.
Therefore, switching the goalkeeper is prohibited. Raya cannot possibly join the Everton team and perform to the best of his ability only to be benched for the weekend’s north London derby against a revitalized Tottenham or the visit of PSV Eindhoven.
Switching back and forth between Raya and Ramsdale would imply that Arteta is unaware of his best keeper, which would be a fatal flaw.
He said: “I cannot have two players in each position and not play them after the 1-0 victory at Everton.
We must make use of David’s extraordinary qualities, just like Aaron did.”.
Yes, but good luck getting them to rotate like keepers in a spin dryer.
Consider the best teams, all the great sides in the greatest success stories of English football, and you’ll find an established No. As a final line of defense, 1.
Peter Schmeichel was without a doubt Manchester United’s first-choice goalie during their 1999 Triple Crown victory.
Ederson lives with the obnoxious neighbors across the street who imitated him last season.
Chelsea’s Petr Cech, Arsenal’s David Seaman, and Liverpool’s Alisson have all previously been mentioned.
Raya’s introduction was Arteta’s decision, and he now must follow through. This is not the situation in England in the 1970s, when they could switch between Ray Clemence and Peter Shilton.
Raya has been selected by Arteta as his best option — for the time being — and the Brentford goalkeeper should be given a run of games to demonstrate that he is the long-term answer.
A dependable defense is the foundation of every champion team.
A goalkeeper’s ability to work well with his back four, and especially the central defenders, is crucial. And for the first three-quarters of the previous season, Arsenal seemed to have the answer.
Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, and Zinchenko should be substituted for Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Bould, and Winterburn.
Comment below and let us know whether David Raya or Aaron Ramsdale should start the match against PSV.
Ramsdale’s treatment appears incredibly harsh on the surface, and it could be harmful for England.
Should Three Lions No. The injury to Jordan Pickford forced Gareth Southgate to select yet another player who doesn’t start every week for his club.
And it strikes Ramsdale as extraordinary considering that, by all accounts, he was in top form as Arsenal held the lead in the title race for 248 days last season.
He ranks among the top shot blockers in the Premier League.
You don’t get many fingertip saves to the pound, but one at Leicester when James Maddison’s free-kick was deflected against the inside of the crossbar was incredible.
The signing of Raya by Arteta caused widespread shock among the goalkeepers’ union because it would result in a dangerous dynamic where two keepers would be directly competing for the starting position rather than the traditional hierarchy of an established No. 1 and No. 2.
1 and his competent deputy.
Any football club should value competition for positions, but goalkeeping is a special position.
Every error is accentuated, especially if it results in the achievement of a goal.
According to rumors, Arteta became concerned when Arsenal began giving up goals in the first minute of home matches three times in ten matches, against Bournemouth, Southampton, and Fulham.
Even though Ramsdale was not personally responsible for all three, it raised doubts about his ability to be alert from the first whistle.
When Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz opened the scoring in a crazy 3-3 draw at the Emirates last April, the Gunners’ title challenge was his fault.
And last month, when Andreas Pereira scored for Fulham after just 57 seconds, Arteta lost patience because Ramsdale’s positioning was questionable.
So, next week when Brentford plays away in the League Cup, that is when we will next see him in goal.
It’s Raya’s shirt to lose now, though, in the short term.
