Five aerial wins, seven clearances: Arteta struck gold with the 22-year-old scintillating for Arsenal against Sevilla.

Arsenal defender William Saliba put in a solid performance in the Champions League win against Sevilla.

The Gunners’ 22-year-old didn’t have the best of times in the draw with Chelsea but made up for it in the midweek trip to Europe.

Saliba impressed as he handled the physical threat of Youssef En-Nesiri and the hosts eventually made it two.

Despite having to go up against Mariano Diaz, the Arsenal star remained strong and confident and it did him no favors.

Saliba seemed to win almost every 50-50 challenge and header.

His stats on the night are great to read.

According to Whoscored, the Arsenal centre-back had seven rebounds and one strike.

He also won five aerial challenges and made 64 tackles, the most of any Gunners player on the night.

William Saliba is Arsenal’s current and future star.

Mikel Arteta struck gold not only in signing Saliba but also in his development as a player.

Over the years, some Arsenal fans have criticized the manager for not leaving players out for final matches.

Instead, Saliba was loaned out several times before making his debut a year ago.

He eventually moved to Arsenal and became one of the key players in their run of Premier League titles.

Some point out that Saliba’s injury was the biggest reason why the Gunners were unable to play in the Championship game.

Saliba is only 22 years old, but it’s not crazy to think he already looks like a full-fledged center back.

Given that defenders’ prime years are in their mid-to-late 20s, he’s probably nowhere near the finished product.
