It’s no secret that Barcelona are working day and night to sign Vitor Roque ahead of the January transfer window.
The club’s sporting director Deco and even Javi Hernández want to bring the Brazilian to Catalonia after the New Year.
However, going into the January transfer window, Barcelona received mixed news regarding the club’s financial situation.
Good news
Friday’s decision by La Liga’s board to introduce changes to economic controls could strengthen Barcelona’s finances, according to Mundo Deportivo.
This is due to one of the reimbursement changes due to COVID-19. Until then, clubs had to pay a percentage each year.
However, La Liga has now decided to introduce an annual cap based on a club’s turnover, allowing clubs to spread this cost over a number of years.
Deco would like to bring Vitor Roque on board.
This plays into Barcelona’s hands as they would not have to pay the expected €80m, increasing the cost of the squad by €270m. Vitor Roque is not enough
Despite the cost savings expected by Barcelona from the decision, the signing of Vitor Roque will not be enough for the club.
According to the situation, the Catalans will have to pay 40 million euros to La Liga, which will save the club’s finances.
Barcelona owes 40 million euros to Libero, who bought shares in the Barça studio last summer.
The alternative for the club is to sell key players from the squad.
Barça can recycle 50% of the value of the sales between them or 60% if the departing player’s salary is at least 5% of the total personnel costs.
If Barcelona do not take one of these steps, the club will not be able to sign Vitor Roque in the upcoming January transfer window.
