Lionel Messi is fielding offers from Europe and Saudi Arabia ahead of a move to Inter Miami

- Lionel Messi has revealed that other European clubs other than Barcelona tried to sign him in the summer before he decided to join Inter Miami.
- The Argentine has decided to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract after two years in the French capital and wants to return to Barcelona in 2021 after being forced out of the club.
Amid La Liga’s financial constraints, Barcelona failed to sign Messi’s contract and his nearly 20-year partnership with La Blaugrana came to an abrupt end.
However, it was revealed last June that Messi would be moving to MLS for Inter Miami, where he has taken the country by storm with his sensational form.
Messi, who won a record eighth Ballon d’Or earlier this week, discussed a number of topics in interviews with L’Equipe and France Football, including how close he is to a return to Barcelona.
“At that moment I thought about what was best for me and my family.
Becoming a world champion and achieving every goal I set for myself in my career allowed me to take a break from the sporting aspect and think about the well-being of my family as a whole and benefit from a different perspective.

“It was a decision I made quietly,” Messi said.
“I could have returned to Barcelona, but it wasn’t possible.
That’s what happened when I had to leave the club [in 2021].” The situation was different, but there was little the same. My first thought was to return home, play for Barcelona again and retire there, as I had always dreamed of.
But that was not possible.
That’s why we decided to come here [Inter Miami].
“Of course I follow [Barcelona] to watch the matches, like when they play in Paris.
I think the team has improved a lot over time.
The level of the young players is very good.
“This year we have a great team with the potential to compete on all fronts.”
Messi explained that he received offers from Europe and Saudi Arabia and that Barcelona were not the only team that missed out on signing him.
“To be honest, I had a lot of different offers.
“But in the end we decided to come to Miami and I’m happy that I feel better here.
My family and I enjoy everyday life more than ever. We have more things to do together and can share moments that I once missed with my wife and children. Miami is a city with a great climate.
And it was great because my friends and former teammates [Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets] were there too!\”
