Jurgen Klopp provides an initial timeline for Dominik Szoboszlai’s injury.

Dominik Szoboszlai, a midfielder for Liverpool, sustained a hamstring injury against Newcastle on New Year’s Day. Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Szoboszlai will miss the team’s next two games at least.

In the second half of the Reds’ eventual 4-2 victory at Anfield, which cemented their top spot in the Premier League standings, the Hungarian ace was substituted.

“I can attest that it is an injury and not a possible one. Hamstring muscle. At his most recent press conference, Klopp told reporters, “But we’ll have to wait and see.

“We will have to wait a little while, but Dom is really upbeat and doesn’t feel much pain. Therefore, there is obviously no chance for Sunday or Wednesday. No.

“And then, who knows, maybe he’ll return after that, but we’ll see.”

The matches Klopp was referring to are Liverpool’s match against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Sunday and their match against Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final. This is their final game before a mini-break, which gives Szoboszlai and his teammates an 11-day match respite.

After that, Liverpool visits Fulham for the second leg of their match against Chelsea at Anfield on the last day of the month, then travels to Bournemouth, which is currently in form.

Since arriving at Liverpool on a five-year contract from RB Leipzig last summer, Szoboszlai has left a lasting impression.

Subsequently, on the final day of the month, Liverpool plays the second leg of their match against Chelsea at Anfield against Fulham before moving on to Bournemouth, who are currently playing well.

Szoboszlai has made an impact since joining Liverpool on a five-year deal from RB Leipzig in the summer of last year.

The 23-year-old’stransfercost the team approximately £60 million (they fully paid the release clause in his contract), but he has already made back some of that money with some very impressive performances in a revamped midfield.

Liverpool lost Mohamed Salah to AFCON duty with Egypt, so the timing of Szoboszlai’s injury is not ideal, but at least they could welcome back fellow summer signing Alexis Mac Allister against Newcastle.

The Argentine World Cup winner was given 15 minutes against Newcastle, as Salah led the Reds to victory despite having a penalty saved by Martin Dubravka in the first half. The player had missed six matches following a nasty cut on his knee during Liverpool’s match against Crystal Palace.
