While every Liverpool player had their loan agreements terminated and was returning to Anfield, there was one returnee who was not widely publicized.
Four players have been called back to Liverpool so far: Owen Beck, Rhys Williams, James Balagizi, and Fabio Carvalho. These players were away from the team for the first half of the season before rejoining Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Not only the quartet, though, will be making a comeback to the club this month. Unlike the other four, Nat Phillips’ contract with Liverpool has already expired, so he didn’t need to be called back from his loan period to return.
Nat Phillips is coming back
Phillips was only loaned to Celtic for a period of six months, which ended at the end of December. The 26-year-old center back is currently back in training with Liverpool, and his presence will be crucial in adding depth to the starting lineup.
Speaking during his most recent press conference, which was streamed live on Liverpool’s official YouTube channel, Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that Phillips’ loan stint at Celtic hadn’t gone as expected and that he would now resume training with the first team at the AXA training center.
“Nat, it wasn’t entirely successful for a Celtic. Occasionally, injuries occur, but when a team like Celtic is winning, you stick with the team. You might leave if you receive a knock at a favorable time. Klopp remarked, “That says nothing about the quality.”
“Nat will train with us, and then we’ll monitor the progress.”
Additionally, Klopp stated that the club will decide on Phillips‘ transfer towards the end of the month.
“Well, we must observe; we must take into account our personal circumstances and such.” We’ll have him with us until the end of the month, for sure. Then, as is, we will speak and assess our circumstances.
