City in Crisis? Striker Future Up in Air, Key Player Sold

Julian Alvarez’s Future Uncertain Amid Bundesliga Transfer

Julian Alvarez’s future remains uncertain as several clubs, including a Premier League rival, express interest in the 24-year-old forward. Meanwhile, Manchester City defender Yan Couto has departed for Borussia Dortmund in a £25m move.

Alvarez has attracted attention from both Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, with the latter already making preliminary inquiries about the Argentine. PSG has yet to formalize their interest, but speculation about Alvarez’s potential transfer continues. With Alvarez returning from international duty after participating in both the Copa America and the Olympics, the possibility of a move could be on the horizon. City reportedly values Alvarez at around £80m, a figure that might be steep for interested clubs like Arsenal, who have already invested in defender Riccardo Calafiori and goalkeeper David Raya this summer.

Arsenal and Manchester City are set to vie for the Premier League title once again. The transfer of players between the two clubs has become somewhat routine, with recent moves including Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus switching from the Etihad to the Emirates. Arsenal’s need for a proven goalscorer could make Alvarez a crucial addition in Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of his first Premier League title.

After City’s 4-2 win over Chelsea, Pep Guardiola addressed Alvarez’s situation, saying: “No news. I don’t have anything to say. He will come back. I count on him, but he said in the news that decisions will be made all together. Now he has to rest, and when he feels ready to come back, he will come back. I’m sure when he returns, I’ll congratulate him on the Copa America and the Olympics, and we will start working together. This is the reality. Meanwhile, I have a million things to think about with the team.”

In other news, City has confirmed that Yan Couto has joined Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan with an option to buy for over £25m if the Bundesliga club decides to make the deal permanent next summer. The 22-year-old, who joined City from Coritiba in 2019 for £5.5m, has spent much of his time out on loan, including recent spells at Girona and Braga. During his time at Girona, Couto made 34 La Liga appearances and helped the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
