Manchester United is on the brink of finalizing a significant transfer deal for Manuel Ugarte, while also preparing for the departure of Scott McTominay. With the transfer window set to close on Friday, United’s strategy is to secure one key signing while offloading three players.
The club has made substantial progress in its pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who was notably absent from PSG’s matchday squad last week. While United is aiming for a permanent transfer, PSG is open to negotiating a loan deal if United’s financial situation doesn’t allow for an outright purchase. This potential move, however, hinges on the sale of Scott McTominay.
McTominay, 27, is nearing a transfer to Napoli, although the final fee is still under negotiation. United is holding out for £25 million, but the expectation is that the deal will be completed before the deadline.
In addition to McTominay, United is actively looking to sell Jadon Sancho, who has attracted interest from Juventus. Chelsea has also emerged as a potential destination for the 24-year-old winger. Sancho was left out of United’s matchday squad for the second consecutive week during their trip to Brighton, though he did travel with the team to the Amex Stadium.
Another player on the potential exit list is Hannibal Mejbri, who has caught the attention of Championship side Burnley. The 21-year-old midfielder, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Sevilla, has not started for United since November. With his contract set to expire next year, this week presents United’s last opportunity to secure a transfer fee for the player they signed for £10 million from Monaco when he was just 16.
United’s preference is to complete straight sales, though the club might consider loan deals if they align with profitability and sustainability regulations.
