Manchester United are set to face off against their fierce rivals Liverpool in a highly anticipated Premier League showdown at Old Trafford today.
The Red Devils are coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend and will be eager to bounce back with a win against Arne Slot’s side.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are one of the only two teams boasting a flawless start to the season, but United will be determined to end that streak with a victory of their own.
Last season, the two teams drew their league encounters, but United had the upper hand in the FA Cup quarter-final, securing a win thanks to a thrilling late goal by Amad in extra time.
As the Northwest derby approaches, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has made three adjustments to his starting lineup.
Andre Onana retains his spot in goal, with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot continuing to hold down the right and left-back positions, respectively, for the third consecutive match.
However, there’s a significant change in central defense, where Matthijs de Ligt has been given his full debut, partnering with Lisandro Martinez, while Harry Maguire finds himself on the bench.
In midfield, Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo will form the central duo, with Bruno Fernandes taking his usual position as the number 10, filling in for the injured Mason Mount. Joshua Zirkzee will make his first full start as the striker.
On the wings, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have been selected to play on the left and right, respectively. Unfortunately for Amad, despite his goal against Brighton, he’s been dropped from the lineup.
United’s confirmed lineup (4-2-3-1): Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford; Zirkzee.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have opted to stick with the same lineup that secured a victory against Brentford in their previous match.
Alisson will start in goal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson occupying the full-back positions. Virgil van Dijk will continue to be partnered by Ibrahima Konate in central defense.
Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister will control the midfield, with Dominik Szoboszlai playing in the number 10 role. Mohamed Salah and Luiz Diaz will once again take their places on the wings.
Diogo Jota has been selected to lead the attack, ahead of Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool’s confirmed lineup (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota.
