Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has responded to ongoing speculation regarding a potential move to Manchester City. After an impressive Euro 2024 performance, Zubimendi was heavily linked with Liverpool during the summer, with the Reds reportedly ready to trigger his £51 million release clause. However, the 24-year-old ultimately chose to remain with his boyhood club.
Despite Liverpool’s strong start to the Premier League season and their revamped midfield, Zubimendi has no regrets about staying at Sociedad, who are struggling in La Liga. “I’ve always thought the best option for me is to stay at Real Sociedad,” Zubimendi said when asked about City’s reported interest ahead of Spain’s UEFA Nations League matches. He added, “I still want to grow and develop here.”

As Manchester City now reportedly eyes Zubimendi as a possible solution following Rodri’s long-term injury, the challenge for City will be convincing the Spaniard to leave his childhood team. His current contract includes a release clause that remains valid until 2027, offering Premier League clubs a potential path to securing his signature. However, Zubimendi’s loyalty to Sociedad suggests any move would require serious persuasion.
