Barcelona has a history of legendary players who later managed the club, from Pep Guardiola to Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez. Recently, Andres Iniesta hinted at his own ambition to follow that path. However, one name notably absent from these plans is Lionel Messi.
In an interview with Fabrizio Romano, Messi, now 37, shared his thoughts on life after his playing days and made it clear that coaching isn’t on his agenda. “I’m not planning to become a manager when I retire. This is not something I’m considering,” he stated.
While it’s uncertain what role Messi might take in football once he steps away from the pitch, a return to Barcelona in some capacity is always possible—just not as head coach of the first team.
