Manchester City’s loss to Brighton on Saturday marked their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions, allowing Liverpool to pull five points ahead at the top of the Premier League. After securing four straight league titles, defender Ruben Dias emphasized that it’s only natural for other teams to want to dethrone them. However, Dias assured fans that City are ready to “embrace” the challenges of what’s shaping up to be a rollercoaster season.
“It’s normal that times like this come, mostly because so many people want to take us down,” Dias told BBC Sport. “We accept it, we embrace it; that’s part of the challenge. That’s why we love it so much. If not for this, our wins wouldn’t be as big as they are. It’s the life we live, and we love it for it. We just keep on doing what we do best.”
Speaking to Sky Sports, Dias added, “It’s still early days in the season, and there’s a lot to happen. We all know how the Premier League is; that is why we love it so much, and we know this is going to be a very wild season.”
This recent losing streak is the first time City have suffered four defeats in a row since 2006 and marks the first time in Pep Guardiola’s managerial career he’s encountered such a run. However, City are known for their resilience, and dismissing them so early in the season would be unwise.
Following losses to Bournemouth, Tottenham, Sporting CP, and now Brighton, Guardiola’s squad will aim to bounce back when they face Spurs in the Premier League on November 23.
