Pep Guardiola Commits to Manchester City Until 2027, Aiming for More Trophies
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract extension, committing to the club until 2027 and potentially extending his tenure at the Etihad to 11 years.
Guardiola, who has been at the helm since 2016, expressed his passion for the club and his desire to achieve even greater success. “Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club. That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons,” he said.
The decision follows months of speculation about Guardiola’s future, with many believing this could have been his final season in Manchester. However, the manager has found renewed energy and purpose, with insiders suggesting he wants to rebuild the team before eventually stepping away.
Guardiola thanked the club’s leadership and fans for their continued support:
“Thank you to everyone for continuing to trust and support me – the owner, the chairman Khaldoon, Ferran, Txiki, the players and of course the fans… everyone connected to Manchester City. It has always been an honour, a pleasure and a privilege to be here.”
He also emphasized his focus on adding to the club’s silverware collection:
“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much. Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”
While City are currently enduring a challenging spell with four consecutive losses in all competitions—their worst run under Guardiola—they remain second in the Premier League standings. The team has won the league title for four consecutive seasons and traditionally peaks during the winter months.
City will aim to bounce back and regain momentum when they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. With Guardiola’s commitment secured, the club will be hoping to turn their season around and add to their remarkable list of achievements under his leadership.
