Breaking News: Air Noland Transfers to South Carolina
The South Carolina Gamecocks have secured a major addition to their quarterback room. Air Noland, a former 4-star prospect and one of the most highly touted quarterbacks in the 2024 class, announced Monday that he’s transferring to South Carolina.
Noland initially committed to Ohio State, where he was ranked the No. 4 quarterback and No. 56 overall prospect in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite. However, after the Buckeyes bolstered their already-crowded quarterback room, Noland decided to explore other opportunities and entered the transfer portal following the regular season. He joins the Gamecocks with four years of eligibility remaining after not playing a snap for Ohio State this season.
This is a significant, albeit intriguing, win for Coach Shane Beamer. The Gamecocks are firmly set at quarterback for the near future with LaNorris Sellers, who just completed a stellar first season as the full-time starter. Sellers, fresh off being named SEC Freshman of the Year, isn’t draft-eligible until after the 2025 season, making it highly unlikely that Noland will unseat him as the starter in the immediate future.
Still, Noland represents the future of South Carolina’s offense. At 6-foot-2 and 192 pounds, he arrives in Columbia with an impressive résumé. During his junior year at Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes, Noland threw an incredible 55 touchdowns, the second-highest single-season total in Georgia high school football history. That same year, his team set a state record with 792 points and captured its first-ever state championship.
Although Noland might sit behind Sellers for now, he’s poised to step into the starting role when the opportunity arises. His addition also gives South Carolina a highly capable backup with elite potential—a valuable asset for any SEC program.
The Gamecocks are continuing to build for the future, having also signed Cutter Woods, a quarterback out of Anderson (S.C.) Westside, as part of their 2025 recruiting class.
Stay tuned as South Carolina’s quarterback depth becomes one of the most exciting stories to follow in the coming seasons!
