Live Update: LaNorris Sellers Commits to Staying at South Carolina
LaNorris Sellers, the redshirt freshman quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks, has made a major statement: he’s staying in Columbia. The Gamecock star has solidified his future with the team by signing a groundbreaking NIL deal with The Garnet Trust, South Carolina’s collective.
While the exact terms of the deal remain under wraps, insider Brad Crawford confirmed its significance. “Though terms have not been disclosed, I’m told LaNorris Sellers’ NIL deal is record-setting for a South Carolina player. Multiple SEC schools, among others, were in pursuit,” Crawford reported via Twitter.
The announcement caps a spectacular season for Sellers, who emerged as a pivotal player for South Carolina in 2024. He stepped into the starting quarterback role, leading the Gamecocks to a 9-3 record and a berth in the Citrus Bowl. His performance earned him the title of SEC Freshman of the Year, thanks to his impressive stats:
- Passing: 172 completions on 265 attempts (64.9%) for 2,274 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
- Rushing: 155 carries for 655 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Sellers’ brilliance was most evident during the Gamecocks’ six-game winning streak to close the season. Over that stretch, he completed 67.1% of his passes for 1,481 yards, with a 13-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. On the ground, he rushed for 436 yards on 84 carries, averaging 5.19 yards per attempt, and added 4 rushing touchdowns.
This announcement also follows South Carolina’s acquisition of Air Noland, a highly touted transfer quarterback from Ohio State. While Noland adds depth and competition, Sellers has firmly established himself as the present and future leader of the Gamecocks’ offense.
The Gamecocks will look to cap their impressive season as they take on Illinois in the Citrus Bowl on Tuesday.
Stay tuned for more updates as we follow Sellers and South Carolina into the postseason!
