Alabama Football Hit by Another DB Departure to Transfer Portal

Breaking News: King Mack, Alabama Defensive Back, Enters Transfer Portal

Live from Tuscaloosa, another shakeup for Alabama football as King Mack announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Friday. The move, shared through social media and confirmed by Hayes Fawcett of On3, marks the third Crimson Tide defensive back to seek new opportunities this season.

Mack, who transferred to Alabama from Penn State last spring, leaves the program with two years of eligibility remaining. Despite limited action, Mack made his presence felt, playing in 12 of Alabama’s 13 games this season and recording 14 tackles.

The 5-foot-10, 206-pound Miami native earned significant praise from Alabama’s coaching staff heading into the season. Defensive Coordinator Kane Wommack commended Mack’s instincts and performance under pressure, saying in August:

“He’s a very fast individual. Very physical, he’s got some really good instincts. He seems to be really making plays on the ball. I would say when we go scrimmage-like situations, he tends to elevate his game… I think he’s a very instinctive football player.”

Mack initially made his collegiate debut at Penn State as a four-star recruit in the 2023 class. He featured in 13 games during his freshman year, primarily contributing on special teams for the Nittany Lions before transferring to Alabama.

This decision comes during the five-day transfer window following Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday. Mack joins Jahlil Hurley and DeVonta Smith as Crimson Tide defensive backs opting to enter the portal since the end of the regular season.

With roster changes underway, Alabama looks to regroup as it prepares for its 2025 campaign, kicking off on August 30 with a highly anticipated matchup against Florida State.
