“How USC Won Over Four-Star RB Shahn Alston: ‘They Checked All the Boxes!'”

Breaking News: Shahn Alston Chooses USC Trojans During Navy All-American Bowl

One of the most talented running backs in the Midwest’s 2026 class, Shahn Alston, has officially committed to the USC Trojans. The four-star prospect from Painesville (Ohio) Harvey announced his decision during the Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio, choosing USC over his other top contenders, Wisconsin and Penn State.

Speaking to Rivals ahead of his announcement, Alston shared what made USC the clear choice for his future.

USC checked all the boxes,” Alston revealed. “From academics, development, to the relationships I’ve made. I’ve been really high on USC since the summertime, and really my past visit there sealed the deal.”

That pivotal visit took place in November and became the turning point in Alston’s recruitment. He cited USC’s balance of on-field success and off-field opportunities as factors he couldn’t overlook.

Everyone knows the tradition of USC football,” Alston emphasized. “But one of my favorite things about the school is the opportunities outside of football. Whether it’s business opportunities, networking, etc., USC provides numerous things which will ultimately set me up for life after football.”

USC’s Momentum in 2026 Recruiting Class
Alston becomes the eighth commitment in USC’s 2026 class, joining a group that already ranks inside the top three of the Rivals Team Recruiting Rankings. Under coach Lincoln Riley, the Trojans have built an impressive foundation for the future. Alston is the second offensive recruit in the class, alongside four-star California wide receiver Ja’Myron Baker.

Rivals’ Take
Alston’s junior season showcased his elite talent as he racked up 1,104 yards, 16 touchdowns, and an impressive average of 8.4 yards per carry in just eight games. His commitment continues USC’s strategic push into the Midwest, following the verbal pledge from Chicago four-star defensive end Braeden Jones.

If the Trojans are to thrive in the Big Ten, securing top-tier talent from traditional Midwest strongholds will be crucial—and Alston’s pledge is a step in the right direction.
