Breaking News: Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah Reflects on 2024 Season, Future Plans, and QB Questions

Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah Drops a Bombshell on Sam Darnold’s 2025 Future!

Live from Eagan, Minnesota: Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, general manager of the Minnesota Vikings, addressed reporters at TCO Performance Center on Thursday, wrapping up a 2024 season that ended earlier than anticipated after the team’s NFC Wild Card Playoff loss to the L.A. Rams. Adofo-Mensah offered candid insights into the season, the quarterback situation, and his own future with the franchise.

A Promising but Unfinished Season

Reflecting on a 14-win campaign that exceeded external expectations, Adofo-Mensah emphasized the foundation the Vikings have laid for long-term success.

“I think we’ve laid the foundation for a really competitive, sustained team,” said Adofo-Mensah. “Going into the season, I thought we would be a really competitive playoff team. I can’t say that I sat here and said we were going to win 14 games, but sometimes when you’re on the journey, your expectations shift.”

QB Dilemma: Sam Darnold or J.J. McCarthy?

One of the biggest questions heading into 2025 is the quarterback position. Sam Darnold had a career year, throwing for more than 4,300 yards and 35 touchdowns, but he faltered in critical games. Adofo-Mensah avoided committing to Darnold as the 2025 starter.

“We got to see Sam play some incredible football for us,” he said. “He won a lot of big games. Everything we do is about what the team around him is going to look like. I think we’ve got a lot of good options.”

The Vikings have several paths: they could let Darnold walk, apply the franchise tag, trade him, or sign him to an extension. Meanwhile, rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who missed the entire season due to a torn meniscus, is back on the field throwing and training.

“He looks great, he’s excited,” Adofo-Mensah said of McCarthy. “You talk about a kid who is just obsessed with football and loves being around the game. I can’t sit here and tell you anything for certain.”

Adofo-Mensah’s Future with the Vikings

Adofo-Mensah, under contract through 2025, expressed his desire to remain with the Vikings and his gratitude for the Wilf family’s support. Under his leadership, the team has captured two division titles in three years but remains winless in the playoffs.

“I’m unbelievably grateful to be the general manager of the Vikings and want to continue to be so,” Adofo-Mensah said. “Whatever comes of the future will come.”

What’s Next for Minnesota?

With the 2024 season in the books, the Vikings have critical decisions to make, particularly at quarterback. Whether Sam Darnold stays, J.J. McCarthy emerges, or another option arises, the path they choose will shape their pursuit of playoff success in 2025.

Stay tuned for updates as the Vikings prepare for what promises to be an offseason filled with pivotal moves and high stakes.
