Son of Ex-NFL Head Coach Lands Major Role on South Carolina’s Coaching Staff!

South Carolina Gamecocks Add Davis Koetter to Coaching Staff for 2025 Season

The South Carolina Gamecocks are making moves, bringing in Davis Koetter to bolster their coaching staff for the 2025 season. A team source confirmed to The State on Saturday that Koetter is set to join the program in an analyst-type role.

Koetter, the son of former Arizona State and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter, comes with a solid pedigree and recent success. Over the past two seasons, he was part of the coaching staff at Texas, where the Longhorns made back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances.

In 2023, Koetter served as a graduate assistant working closely with quarterbacks, including standout names like Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. He was promoted to analyst in 2024, shifting his focus to the tight ends, where his contributions were evident in Texas’ offensive success.

While South Carolina hasn’t finalized Koetter’s title or specific responsibilities, the source indicated it’s likely he’ll be involved with the offensive side of the ball, given his background.

“Coaching football has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember,” Koetter said during an interview on 95.3 FM Boise earlier this week. “Being in it the last two years has confirmed me and validated my desire to do it. And that I can be good at it.”

Koetter’s football journey began as a high school quarterback at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa before transitioning to wide receiver in college. He played three seasons at Portland State and two more at Boise State, where his father, Dirk, served as the offensive coordinator during Koetter’s redshirt senior year. In that final season, Koetter recorded 14 catches for 221 yards and a touchdown.

This addition reflects South Carolina’s commitment to strengthening their coaching ranks with fresh, innovative minds. All eyes will be on Koetter as he brings his experience from Texas and his family legacy to the Gamecocks program.
