Lane Kiffin Takes a Jab at South Carolina After Star WR Snubs Official Visit

Lane Kiffin Stirs the Pot with Gamecocks Over Transfer Target Trey Wallace III

Although the Ole Miss Rebels and South Carolina Gamecocks aren’t traditional rivals, head coach Lane Kiffin might be planting the seeds for a heated rivalry with his latest social media antics.

Kiffin recently shared an article about South Carolina’s pursuit of former Penn State wide receiver Harrison “Trey” Wallace III, who entered the transfer portal on January 15. Wallace was initially scheduled to visit South Carolina but later canceled his trip, opting to visit Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Louisville, and North Carolina instead.

While the exact reasons for Wallace’s decision to skip his South Carolina visit remain unclear, the fallout has added fuel to interconference banter. Ultimately, Wallace committed to Ole Miss, giving Kiffin a significant win in the portal.

Wallace’s Impressive Numbers

Wallace led the Nittany Lions in receiving last season, amassing 46 receptions for 720 yards and four touchdowns. Over three seasons at Penn State, he totaled 84 catches for 1,221 yards and six scores. Rated a four-star transfer portal talent by On3Sports, Wallace ranked 71st overall in the portal, making him a high-value addition for the Rebels.

South Carolina’s Transfer Portal Activity

While the Gamecocks have been active in the portal, they have yet to add a wide receiver. In contrast, they’ve seen four receivers exit the program, including Debron Gatlin (Georgia Tech), Payton Mangrum (East Carolina), Tyshawn Russell (Syracuse), and CJ Adams (uncommitted). Despite this, South Carolina boasts the No. 13-ranked transfer portal class according to On3Sports, with 13 players incoming.

In terms of recruiting, the Gamecocks have addressed the wide receiver position in their 2025 class, signing notable names like Malik Clark, Lex Cyrus, and Jordan Gidron, among others. Notably, Jayden Sellers, the younger brother of South Carolina’s starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers, also joined the class.

Kiffin’s Social Media Jabs

This isn’t the first time Lane Kiffin has taken to social media to poke fun at South Carolina. On December 1, amid College Football Playoff discussions, Kiffin shared a box score from Ole Miss’ 27-3 victory over the Gamecocks earlier in the season. When a South Carolina fan engaged him online, Kiffin replied with the snarky remark, “Spot the ball.”

While the Rebels may have secured Trey Wallace III, the ongoing social media drama adds an intriguing layer to this developing story. Could this be the start of a new rivalry? With Lane Kiffin involved, anything is possible.
