LIVE REPORT: LaNorris Sellers Ranked Among Top College Quarterbacks for 2025
With the College Football Playoff National Championship in the rearview and the offseason officially underway, it’s time for “lists and projections season.” On Thursday, On3 dropped its list of the top 25 quarterbacks in college football for 2025, and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers made a big splash, earning the No. 5 spot.
Sellers’ recognition comes after what On3 described as a “remarkable turnaround” during his 2024 campaign. And remarkable is the perfect word to summarize what Gamecocks fans witnessed from their star quarterback.

A Record-Breaking Freshman Year
The Palmetto State native started the season with flashes of brilliance but struggled with inconsistency due to inexperience and an ankle injury. However, as he got healthier and more comfortable, Sellers turned into an unstoppable force for the Gamecocks.
In 2024, Sellers broke multiple South Carolina freshman records, including 3,208 total yards and 25 total touchdowns. In November alone, he set a new single-month touchdown record with 16. His leadership propelled the Gamecocks to a six-game winning streak—their longest since 2013. To cap it off, Sellers became South Carolina’s first-ever All-SEC quarterback, as voted by the league’s coaches.
Where Does Sellers Rank?
According to On3, Sellers sits at No. 5 on their list, trailing only Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, Penn State’s Drew Allar, Florida’s DJ Lagway, and Texas’ Arch Manning. This ranking places him third among SEC quarterbacks and fourth among rising sophomores in college football.
The Road Ahead for South Carolina
The 2025 season won’t be an easy road for Sellers and the Gamecocks, as they’re slated to face four of On3’s top-15 quarterbacks next year. Key matchups include:
- Garrett Nussmeier (No. 6) and LSU in Baton Rouge.
- Cade Klubnik (No. 8) and Clemson at home in Williams-Brice Stadium.
- John Mateer (No. 9) and Oklahoma in Columbia.
- Diego Pavia (No. 14) and Vanderbilt at home.
A Big Season Opener
South Carolina will kick off the 2025 season in a big way, returning to the very stadium where college football wrapped up its 2024 season. The Gamecocks will face Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on August 31.
With the momentum of a stellar freshman season and the weight of expectations on his shoulders, LaNorris Sellers is poised to lead the Gamecocks into what could be one of their most exciting seasons in recent memory. South Carolina fans, buckle up—it’s going to be a ride.
