Could Rasul Douglas Be Heading to the Vikings? Former Packers Star Linked to NFC North Rival
One of the Green Bay Packers’ best midseason pickups in recent years was cornerback Rasul Douglas. Signed off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad in 2021 to replace an injured Jaire Alexander, Douglas immediately made an impact. He recorded five interceptions, including two pick-sixes, and quickly became a fan favorite in Green Bay.

Douglas’ standout performance earned him a contract extension with the Packers, and many expected him to remain a fixture in their secondary. However, in a surprising move, Green Bay traded him to the Buffalo Bills last season in exchange for a third-round pick.
Since joining Buffalo, Douglas has showcased his skills, allowing a 51.3% completion rate when targeted and recording four interceptions during the final stretch of 2023. Opposing quarterbacks struggled against him, posting a mere 38.6 passer rating.
However, Douglas’ form dipped in 2024. His completion percentage allowed skyrocketed to 72.9%, opposing quarterbacks registered a 122.0 passer rating, and he failed to record an interception. Still, he remains one of the more seasoned cornerbacks available in the upcoming free agency.

Now, Douglas is drawing interest from multiple teams, including one of Green Bay’s fiercest rivals—the Minnesota Vikings. With the possibility of losing All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore to free agency, the Vikings could turn to Douglas to bolster their secondary.
Mason Cameron of PFF commented on the potential fit:
“Douglas faced his share of challenges in Buffalo, earning a 58.9 coverage grade in 2024. However, his knack for creating turnovers remains undeniable, as he tallied 14 interceptions over the three seasons prior.
“As the Vikings look to replace Stephon Gilmore, Douglas presents a seasoned option for the outside. His skill set aligns well with Brian Flores’ aggressive, blitz-heavy scheme, making him a strong candidate to bolster Minnesota’s secondary.”
A move to Minnesota would create a fascinating storyline for Jordan Love and the Packers offense, who would have to face their former teammate twice a year. Packers fans, however, are likely hoping Douglas signs elsewhere, far from the NFC North.
While a return to Green Bay isn’t out of the question, it seems unlikely. The Packers are expected to part ways with Jaire Alexander, but if Douglas were truly part of their long-term plans, they wouldn’t have traded him to Buffalo in the first place.
As for Gilmore, the All-Pro corner is weighing his options. The 2025 season would mark his fifth team in five years if he chooses to continue playing rather than retiring from the NFL.
The upcoming free agency period promises plenty of intrigue, with Rasul Douglas potentially at the center of it all. Will the Vikings land him, or will another team swoop in to secure his services? Stay tuned.
