Trey Moore Commits to Final Season with Texas, Solidifying Longhorns’ Pass Rush Dominance
Big news out of Austin: Trey Moore, one of the Texas Longhorns’ most dynamic defensive players, is officially returning for his final year of eligibility. The announcement came via Moore’s Instagram, confirming what many fans hoped after he opted not to declare for the NFL Draft or enter the transfer portal earlier this month.
A key piece of Texas’ defense, Moore joined the Longhorns last offseason as a high-profile transfer from UTSA. The edge rusher immediately made his mark, earning a spot on the preseason All-SEC third team and becoming one of the most impactful players on the roster. His decision to stay at the Forty Acres ensures Texas will retain a crucial part of its defensive identity heading into 2025.
Moore’s numbers from this past season speak volumes. Starting all 15 games, including a matchup against his former team, he was one of four Longhorn defenders to record 10.5 or more tackles for loss. He added 6.5 sacks, ranking third on the team, and stood out as the only Texas defender to notch multiple forced fumbles and recoveries. Moore delivered in big moments, tallying nine tackles across Texas’ postseason matchups against Georgia in the SEC Championship, Clemson in the College Football Playoff first round, and Arizona State in the quarterfinals.
In total, Moore’s collegiate career has been nothing short of stellar. Between his time at UTSA and Texas, he’s racked up 139 tackles, including 105 at UTSA and 34 with the Longhorns. During his two years with the Roadrunners, Moore dominated, leading the team with 14 sacks and 18 tackles for loss in the 2023 season. His efforts earned him American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-AAC nod.
A product of Smithson Valley High School in San Antonio, where he was named District 27-6A Defensive Player of the Year, Moore has been a standout talent at every level. Now, he’s poised to anchor one of the most fearsome pass-rushing units in college football as Texas eyes another dominant season.
Longhorns fans have every reason to be excited—Trey Moore is back and ready to finish his college career in style.
