HUGE Win for Texas! But What Made Torre Becton Stay at Texas? The Inside Story!

In a significant development for the Texas Longhorns football program, Director of Football Performance Torre Becton has chosen to remain in Austin despite receiving interest from NFL teams. This decision underscores Becton’s commitment to the Longhorns and highlights the value Head Coach Steve Sarkisian places on his contributions.

According to Inside Texas, Becton fielded interest from NFL teams following the 2024 season. Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods reported that New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn extended an offer to Becton to join his staff. Recognizing Becton’s pivotal role, the University of Texas administration acted swiftly to retain him, offering a contract extension and salary increase.

Becton has been an integral part of Sarkisian’s staff since January 2021, when he was appointed as the Director of Football Performance. His tenure has been marked by a focus on player development and performance enhancement, contributing to the team’s recent successes. Before joining Texas, Becton served as the head athletic performance coach for football at California and held positions at Washington, USC, South Carolina State, Iowa State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and the Houston Texans.

The decision to retain Becton comes at a crucial time, as the Longhorns recently experienced staff changes, including the departure of running backs coach Tashard Choice to the Detroit Lions. Maintaining stability within the strength and conditioning department was deemed essential for the team’s continued progress.

Becton’s commitment to the Longhorns reflects his belief in the program’s direction and his dedication to the student-athletes’ development. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, his expertise and leadership will be invaluable assets in striving for on-field success.
