South Carolina Women’s Basketball Fans Poised to Break Attendance Records
The South Carolina Gamecocks have long boasted the best fanbase in the country, with head coach Dawn Staley affectionately referring to them as the FAMs. Year after year, Gamecock fans pack Colonial Life Arena, helping the program lead the nation in attendance every season since 2014-2015—the same year A’ja Wilson arrived on campus.
Chasing History in 2024-2025
This season has been no different. South Carolina once again sits atop the national attendance rankings, but this year, they have a chance to make history.
With just one regular-season home game left—a sold-out Senior Day matchup against Kentucky on Sunday—and two more expected home games in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament, the Gamecocks are within striking distance of breaking the all-time total and average attendance records.
Breaking Their Own Records
Last season, South Carolina fans shattered their own total attendance record, bringing in around 273,000 fans, surpassing the previous mark of 245,000 from 2015-2016. Their average attendance also rivaled that of the 2007-2008 Tennessee Lady Volunteers, with both programs drawing just under 16,000 fans per game. While some debate remained about who held the top spot, the official NCAA record belongs to the Gamecocks.
This season, there will be no doubt.
New Milestones Within Reach
Heading into Sunday’s sellout game, South Carolina is averaging just under 17,000 fans per game. With 18,000 fans expected, that number will rise above 17,000, pushing the total season attendance to approximately 255,000.
With two more home games in the NCAA Tournament, surpassing 273,000 is all but guaranteed, with the Gamecocks on track to set new all-time attendance records.
