Dallas Wings Drop Four-Word Bombshell After Drafting Paige Bueckers No. 1

Nov. 17, 2024, will forever be remembered in Dallas Wings history — the day they secured the coveted No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Unlike drafts where the top pick is up for debate, this year’s selection was a no-brainer, much like the Indiana Fever choosing Caitlin Clark in 2024. When the lottery balls landed in Dallas’ favor, general manager Curt Miller had every reason to celebrate.

On Monday night in New York City, the Wings made it official: they selected Paige Bueckers with the first overall pick.

Shortly after the announcement, Dallas welcomed their new franchise star with a bold message on social media:
“WELCOME TO THE DALLAS WINGS.”

Paige Bueckers, a dynamic 6-foot guard from Edina, Minnesota, had an iconic career at UConn. She was a three-time unanimous First-Team All-American, three-time Big East Player of the Year, and swept every major national award in 2021 — including the John R. Wooden Award, USBWA National Player of the Year, Naismith Player of the Year, and AP Player of the Year.

She capped off her collegiate journey in style, leading UConn to a national championship with a dominant 87-58 win over South Carolina just over a week ago.

In her senior season, Bueckers posted stellar averages of 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, cementing her status as the undisputed top talent in the draft.
