Ta’Niya Latson’s Offseason Grind Signals Gamecock Greatness Ahead
Ta’Niya Latson, the NCAA’s top scorer last season, is poised to make a massive impact at South Carolina following her transfer from Florida State. The explosive guard, who averaged 25.2 points per game for the Seminoles, officially entered the transfer portal on March 27 and committed to Dawn Staley’s powerhouse program on April 8.
The move reunites Latson with her former high school teammate and current Gamecocks point guard, Raven Johnson, who publicly campaigned for her arrival in Columbia.
This past weekend, Latson returned to her hometown of Atlanta to continue honing her skills. Atlanta Sports Reels shared footage of her putting in offseason work with pro trainer @pitts_academy, captioning the Instagram post:
“South Carolina transfer @cbgtaniya Ta’Niya Latson came back home to Atlanta and got some work in with pro trainer @pitts_academy earlier today.”
The video quickly generated buzz online, with fans praising her dedication and speculating about her fit on a loaded Gamecocks roster:
- “The rich get richer,” one fan remarked.
- “NIYA IN THE CUT THAT’S A SCARY SIGHT!” another exclaimed.
- Others chimed in with love for her trainer, “Lab work 💪🏽 @pitts_academy that dude! Much love!”

Despite some playful criticism—like one fan noting “Still having on our FSU gear is crazy”—Latson’s presence has Gamecock Nation fired up.
A Game-Changer for the Gamecocks
Latson is expected to step into the starting shooting guard role, providing a much-needed offensive punch to a team known for its elite defense. Her ability to create and convert shots will help balance a roster that struggled at times to generate points last season.
Beyond her scoring, Latson posted career highs in rebounds (4.6) and assists (4.6) per game and connected on 34.3% from beyond the arc during her standout season at Florida State.
With her addition, South Carolina not only remains in the championship conversation—they could very well be the team to beat in the 2025–26 season. Her elite scoring and playmaking elevate the Gamecocks’ ceiling and could be the key to finally bringing another national title to Columbia.
