Manchester United are gearing up for a busy end to the transfer window, with more players likely to leave than join before the August 30 deadline.
The club is open to offloading up to five players, with Jadon Sancho among those potentially on the move. Despite being reintegrated into the squad after a ten-month absence, Sancho, 24, has struggled to secure a spot in Erik ten Hag’s plans. He was benched during the Community Shield against Manchester City and left out entirely for the match against Fulham, despite being fit after recovering from an ear infection. Sancho has two years remaining on his contract, and United are willing to let him go, either on loan or permanently.
Scott McTominay is another player United are prepared to part with as they continue their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte. While Napoli has shown interest in McTominay, Fulham has backed away after nearing a deal for Sander Berge from Burnley for £25 million. United had rejected Fulham’s final offer of £23 million for the 27-year-old, holding out for at least £30 million. However, Ten Hag would be content to keep McTominay, who played a crucial role last season with ten goals.
With a squad of 31 players, including several young talents like Toby Collyer, Ethan Wheatley, and Harry Amass, United are looking to trim down. Championship leaders Burnley have expressed interest in Hannibal Mejbri, who had a standout loan spell at Birmingham City last season and started in United’s victory at Turf Moor.
Meanwhile, Facundo Pellistri is expected to secure a permanent move to Panathinaikos, with his exclusion from the opening-day squad against Fulham linked to advanced talks over his exit. The 22-year-old winger appears to be on the verge of a departure.
Victor Lindelof is another player whose future at Old Trafford has been uncertain. United had been seeking potential buyers for the 30-year-old defender, whose contract expires next year, after bringing in Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. However, Lindelof, who missed 21 games last season due to injury and illness and played only two halves during pre-season, is now expected to stay, particularly as he has not returned to training since being substituted at halftime during a friendly against Liverpool.
