This Barcelona defensive ace is wanted by Arsenal; should Arteta bring him in?

According to a recent article by Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal is eager to sign Barcelona defensive ace Eric Garcia during this summer’s transfer window. The Spanish center-back has reportedly been chosen by the Gunners as a stand-in for injured Jurrien Timber. Timber is currently out for the long term by a long-term injury.

Garcia’s Last Season’s Decent Spanish Football Performance.
At the center of Xavi’s defense, Garcia had a strong season at the Catalan club recently, putting on a string of outstanding performances. Last season, the 22-year-old played in 32 matches for Barcelona, scoring once and providing two assists across various competitions.

Based on his average of 1 tackles, 0 interceptions, and 1 clearances per game in La Liga, the Spanish talent consistently outperformed himself when playing defense inside his own half. According to statistics from whoscored, he was even precise when distributing the ball from the back, with a pass success rate of 91% in the top Spanish division.

It might be difficult for Arsenal to sign him on the cheap before the end of this month because his current contract at Barcelona expires in the summer of 2026.

Should Garcia join the team under head coach Mikel Arteta at Arsenal?
Garcia is a capable ball defender who can time his challenges well in order to win the ball back for his team inside of his half. He is skilled at playing his way out from the back and typically puts his foot through the ball when the opposition is on the front foot.

The Spanish sensation is primarily a central defender but can also play defensive midfielder if instructed to do so by his manager.

Garcia will likely improve the defense under Mikel Arteta’s leadership at Arsenal. Over the next few years, he might even improve the Gunners’ ability to compete on all fronts.

The North London club would therefore be wise to make every effort to bring Garcia on board during this summer’s transfer window. From his time at Man City, he has extensive knowledge of the Premier League, and he won’t need much time to adapt to Arteta’s playing style at the London club.
