Eighth-day anniversaries for Arsenal: two victories, one loss, and one tie. the beginning of the third double season.

Born on September 8, 1869, is Arthur George Worrall. He began playing center forward for Goldthorne Villa, then had stints with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burton Swifts, and Leicester Fosse before signing with Woolwich Arsenal.

The first Football League games were played on September 8 of that year, though there was no consensus on how the League standings would be determined.
Gershom Cox of Aston Villa, who played defense, scored the first-ever League own goal. Jerry Cooper, who joined Arsenal in 1893, played for Wolverhampton against Aston Villa.
