Vitor Roque will be joining the Blaugrana in Catalunya this winter, but they still require reinforcements, particularly in midfield.
Barcelona must make improvements. These days, it seems like they do. Despite all of the talk about the club’s upper management engaging in financial mismanagement, the Blaugrana haven’t made poor hiring decisions recently. They were led to a league championship by Robert Lewandowski, who was not the same man as before. Despite his flaws, Jules Kounde has shown himself at two defensive positions. Ilkay Gundogan appears to be a great addition to the team on a free transfer.
However, the transfer market has also seen some misses, particularly last summer. As a replacement for Sergio Busquets, Oriol Romeu was an unclear addition, but Joao Felix has proven to be the erratic and frequently ineffectual player that Chelsea and Atletico Madrid supporters had previously grown accustomed to.
The Blaugrana do have a serious need going into the January transfer window. They are without a vital midfield player due to Gavi’s season-ending ACL rupture in November, and their problems have been made worse by other players in the middle of the park not being fully fit. Barca has acknowledged this, with club president Joan Laporta stating that they are looking to loan out a central midfield player.
So, GOAL looks at the midfielders Barca could sign this winter while young Brazilian striker Vitor Roque arrives to bolster the attacking ranks.
