As they lead the Premier League right now, Liverpool may decide to bolster their roster this month as two of their players are expected to leave for international duty. Jurgen Klopp’s team
Liverpool defeated Newcastle 4-2 on New Year’s Day to finish 2023 as the Premier League’s top team. They also had a great start to 2024.
And since Liverpool is expected to lose Wataru Endo to the Asian Cup and Mohamed Salah to the Africa Cup of Nations, manager Jurgen Klopp may need to make some transfers this month.
A number of players, including Andy Robertson, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Kostas Tsimikas, and Stefan Bajcetic, are currently sidelined for the Reds due to injuries.
Sane boost:
Leroy Sane, a star player for Bayern Munich, has been linked to Liverpool. However, German publication BILD is now claiming that Sane is delaying signing a new contract.
The Bundesliga giants are eager to get Sane to sign an extension because his current contract is set to expire in 18 months. Sane wants to postpone making a decision about his future until after Euro 2024, according to the report.
It says that Bayern will have to pay more for a contract extension if they put on a strong show at the Euros and draw in interested parties.
Carragher pinpoints the main objective
The legendary Jamie Carragher of Liverpool has advised his old team to add a new defender this month in order to maintain their title challenge.
He told Sky Sports, “I still think Manchester City have the edge and are still favourites for the title right now.” “Given the two injuries to the left-backs and Joel Matip’s season-long absence, I believe they have an opportunity that they should not pass up.
“I really believe that Liverpool needs to add a defender to the team in January. Liverpool has a manager who has previously won the title, something Arsenal does not. and those members of that team who are truly elite athletes.”
Williams remembered
Following Fabio Carvalho and Owen Beck, Rhys Williams is the most recent Liverpool player to be called up early from a loan period.
The 22-year-old defender played 19 games in the first team for Liverpool in the 2020–21 season. Since then, he has been out on loan in the Championship, playing for Swansea City and Blackpool. Nevertheless, he was loaned to Aberdeen of the Scottish Premiership this season and did not play a single game.
Aberdeen released a statement that said, “We thank Rhys for all his efforts and wish him the very best in his future career.” “We also want to thank Liverpool for their professionalism and cooperation throughout.”
