Chelsea may now make a move for the £20 million player who called Reece James “incredible.”

Callum Wilson, a forward for Newcastle United, is a target for Chelsea in a surprise January transfer.

As per Football Transfers, Chelsea is reportedly contemplating the prospect of satisfying Newcastle’s demand of £18 million for the striker.

It goes without saying that Mauricio Pochettino‘s team is looking to add a forward this month.

Nicolas Jackson, who is at AFCON 2024 right now, had trouble scoring goals on a regular basis during the first part of the campaign.

With Armando Broja’s future still up in the air and Christopher Nkunku sidelined, Chelsea lacks true quality up front.

The Blues have been connected to high-profile transfers for players like Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen. However, it appears that this month they might consider Callum Wilson as a less expensive option.

Football Transfers reports that Chelsea is considering whether to pay Newcastle’s £18 million asking price for Callum Wilson.Chelsea is reportedly considering making a surprise move for Wilson.

It appears that the Blues are prepared to forgo their plan to acquire Wilson in favor of a trade for one of their younger players. The source adds that Wilson could provide Chelsea with a “quality” option for at least 18 months, according to Chelsea.

Newcastle will have to sell in order to buy before making any progress on that front as they seek to add a new midfield player.

Wilson joined Newcastle for £20 million in September 2020, and since then, he has established himself as a consistent goal source. The Englishman has made 102 appearances for the Magpies and scored 46 goals.

The forward has already praised Chelsea’s right-back captain Reece James, calling the Englishman ‘unbelievable’.

In September 2022, he said to the Footballer’s Football Podcast, “I think Reece James looks more robust [than Trent Alexander-Arnold], should I say, but I’ve never trained with him or played with him.”

“I can only speak to what I have observed. Reece James has scored some incredible goals against us, as far as I’ve seen. He’s also a fantastic right-back.

Seeing Wilson collaborate with his England teammate at Stamford Bridge would undoubtedly be intriguing.

This might be a wise temporary addition for Chelsea as they try to bolster their scoring total.

However, over the past 18 months, they have developed a habit of focusing on young players, so it is unclear if they will make a move for a striker who is 31 years old.
